Pressure Doesn't Affect Me, Says Bullish Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou was taunted from Forest fans during Thursday's match

Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou insists that any pressure regarding his position will not influence his methodology.

The team is without a victory in his first six games since the coach took over from Nuno Espirito Santo at the club's stadium.

A group of Forest fans shouted, "you're getting sacked in the morning", towards the ex- Tottenham and Celtic boss following Thursday's 3-2 European loss at home to Midtjylland.

The Manager's Response to Pressure

Postecoglou, however, stated that the Europa League title he won at Tottenham last season, before being dismissed in the off-season, was proof he does not let pressure to impact his coaching.

"I don't think about it," he continued. "My responsibility involves making sure this football club advances and reaches a position where it can challenge for things," said Postecoglou.

"Should I begin putting timelines to that or worry about what is occurring next week then I am not fulfilling the position I have been given.

"I believe it is helpful to anyone. At the end of the day, I have to focus on the atmosphere, the training, the style of play, and as I mentioned recently, I am still extremely confident in my conviction that we are not too far away.

"Put it this way - I was aware I was being dismissed at Tottenham approximately three or four months before I was, but that didn't prevent me from securing a trophy."

Career History

The veteran coach moved to Spurs from Celtic in 2023 and fans at first embraced the coach for his attacking style of play, with the Londoners finishing 5th in the Premier League during his debut campaign.

Postecoglou's following season was more difficult as Spurs ended 17th in the table. He did, however, guide the team to their initial silverware in 17 years as they defeated Manchester United in the Europa League championship match.

Current Circumstances

Forest travel to Newcastle United on Sunday (2pm UK time).

Amid the poor run of results, there is little doubt it has been a difficult beginning for Postecoglou.

And the numbers demonstrate just how poor Forest have performed since his arrival.

Statistical Analysis

  • In Postecoglou's six matches, they have been beaten on four occasions across multiple competitions
  • No top-flight team has lost as numerous games as Forest since his hiring
  • They have conceded 13 goals - at a average of 2.17 per game
  • Only Manchester United and Burnley have a poorer goals conceded per game average than Forest since Postecoglou's arrival
  • Unexpectedly, it is the 35th instance in which a top-flight manager has not secured a victory in their initial six matches in every tournament

Historical Context

Paul Jewell maintains the unenviable mark, having failed to win any of his initial twenty-seven games as Derby County manager in the 2007-2008 campaign.

Nuno was fired after just three fixtures of this season when Forest were tenth in the standings. They are now seventeenth, having tied once and been defeated twice of their three league games under Postecoglou.

He is the first permanent Forest manager in a century not to win his first six matches.

Supporter Perspective

This campaign could have been one of Nottingham Forest's finest in recent times. Entry into Europe for the initial occasion in three decades, the best squad this millennium and all involved working towards the common goal.

Somehow, at least for now, that has all gone away. Nuno has left, performances have been poor and on the recent evening the stadium turned on the new manager Ange Postecoglou after only six matches.

However it's typically classic Forest, a team that veers from achievement to self-made disaster like a learner driver who fails to remain in a traffic line.

Upcoming Challenges

With games against the Magpies, Chelsea, the Portuguese side, Bournemouth and Manchester United coming up, it's quite difficult to say whether he can reverse the situation before it becomes even more negative.

But question any supporter and they'll inform you the identical thing, it's always eventful at Nottingham Forest.
